Method
- First, prepare the steak by tossing it with olive oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and pepper.
- Next, whisk together all the sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set aside.
- Heat sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the steak to the skillet and cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Add the broccoli, carrots, onion, bell peppers, and zucchini to the skillet. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Pour the sauce over the vegetables and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.
- Return the steak to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce.
- Serve the Hibachi Steak Bowls over cooked white rice. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired.
Notes
The key to fantastic Hibachi Steak Bowls is searing the steak properly. Make sure your pan is screaming hot before adding the meat. This creates that beautiful crust and locks in the juices. Don’t overcrowd the pan, or the steak will steam instead of sear. Work in batches if necessary. For the vegetables, aim for a stir-fry that retains some crunch. We want them tender-crisp, not mushy. Experiment with different veggies – mushrooms, snow peas, or even bok choy would be delicious additions. Finally, don't be afraid to adjust the sauce to your liking. If you prefer a sweeter sauce, add a bit more honey. For a spicier kick, toss in a pinch of red pepper flakes.
