Valentine's Day Strawberry Donuts

Quick to make, surprisingly healthy, and bursting with strawberry flavor, these donuts are a heartwarming way to celebrate love.

Ingredients
  

For the Donuts:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Strawberry Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons strawberry puree (fresh or frozen, thawed and pureed)
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk (to adjust consistency)
  • Red food coloring (1-2 drops, optional)
  • Strawberry sprinkles (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag or a large Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off. Pipe batter into each donut cavity, filling about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and strawberry puree. Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired glaze consistency. If desired, add red food coloring for a more vibrant color for your Valentine's Day Strawberry Donuts.

  9. Dip each donut into the glaze, covering the top.

  10. Immediately sprinkle with strawberry sprinkles, if desired.
