Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Strawberry Component
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries finely diced
Glaze (optional)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan thoroughly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, applesauce, egg, and vanilla extract.

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  5. Gently fold in the diced strawberries into the batter.

  6. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk as needed to reach your desired consistency.
