- Make the peach simple syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the peach slices, 2 cups of the water, and the granulated sugar.2 cups fresh unpeeled ripe peach slices, 4 1/2 cups water, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to help the sugar dissolve.
- Continue to gently boil for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the peaches are very soft and tender.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the peach syrup cool for 10 minutes.
- Pour the syrup through a fine-mesh strainer into a small pitcher. Use the back of a spoon to press firmly on the peach solids to extract all the flavorful liquid. Discard the leftover peach pulp.
- Stir the fresh lemon juice and the remaining 2 1/2 cups of water into the peach syrup in the pitcher.3/4 cup fresh lemon juice, 4 1/2 cups water
- Serve the lemonade over ice in glasses, garnishing each with a fresh slice of peach.2 cups fresh unpeeled ripe peach slices
Notes
For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season peaches. The peach syrup can be made up to two weeks in advance and stored in the refrigerator. For a fizzy version, replace the final 2 1/2 cups of water with chilled club soda or sparkling water.
