Ingredients

For the Dough:
  • 1 package active dry yeast (0.25 ounce)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Garlic Butter:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Small Bowl

Method

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
  2. Make the dough: Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let dough rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare the garlic butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix well.
  6. Shape the rolls: Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  7. Assemble the rolls: Flatten each ball slightly. Spread a generous amount of garlic butter on top of each flattened dough piece.
  8. Arrange the sliced rolls: Stack 4-5 flattened circles and make the layers, then, slice them to two and place them on the baking sheet.
  9. Bake the rolls: Transfer the rolls to a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  10. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve warm.

Notes

For the best Garlic Butter Bread Rolls, make sure your yeast is fresh. The water temperature is crucial, it should be warm (105-115°F) but not hot. Don't over-knead the dough – just knead until it's smooth and elastic. Also, allowing the dough to rise in a warm, draft-free place is essential. For extra flavor, try using roasted garlic in your garlic butter. And finally, always bake the rolls until they are golden brown.
