Easy Puff Pastry Strawberry Hearts

Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet puff pastry 14.1 oz, thawed
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam or preserve
  • 1 large egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • powdered sugar optional, for dusting

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Get ready for some sweet baking!
  2. Gently unfold the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Flouring is key for crispy layers.

  3. Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as possible. These are your base.
  4. In a bowl, mix sliced strawberries with sugar and lemon juice. This macerates the strawberries, releasing their juices.
    1 pound fresh strawberries, 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  5. Place half of the hearts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. These will be your base.
  6. Carefully spread about a teaspoon of strawberry jam on each heart.

  7. Top the hearts with the marinated strawberries.

  8. Place the remaining hearts on top of the strawberries and jam.

  9. Brush each heart with beaten egg.
    1 large egg
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown. Watch them carefully!
  11. Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack. Patience!
  12. Dust with powdered sugar (optional). Now you can enjoy!
