Preheat your doughnut maker. If you don’t have one, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt
In a separate bowl, combine the milk, egg, and melted butter.
1 cup milk, 1 large egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix. A few lumps are okay.
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup milk, 1 large egg, 2 tablespoons melted butter
Carefully fill the wells of your doughnut maker about ⅔ full. If baking, pour into a heart shaped baking pan.
Close the doughnut maker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. If baking, bake for 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the doughnuts cool slightly before removing them from the doughnut maker or pan.
While the doughnuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add more milk if needed to reach desired consistency.
1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dip the warm doughnuts in the glaze, letting the excess drip off.
1 cup powdered sugar, 2-3 tablespoons milk, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Sprinkle with sprinkles (if desired) and let the glaze set before serving.
