- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs (if using), egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to overmix.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties, slightly larger than the buns.
- Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Cook the burgers for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
- During the last minute of cooking, top with your favorite cheese, if desired.
- Assemble the burgers on buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and your favorite sauce. Serve immediately.
Notes
Don't overmix the meat to avoid tough burgers. Add ice-cold water for extra juiciness. Let burgers rest a few minutes after cooking. Experiment with different seasonings and toppings. Serve with fries, onion rings, or salad.
