Equipment

  • Large Bowl
  • Skillet or grill pan

Method

  1. In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs (if using), egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Be careful not to overmix.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form into patties, slightly larger than the buns.
  3. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the burgers for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until cooked through to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).
  5. During the last minute of cooking, top with your favorite cheese, if desired.
  6. Assemble the burgers on buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and your favorite sauce. Serve immediately.

Notes

Don't overmix the meat to avoid tough burgers. Add ice-cold water for extra juiciness. Let burgers rest a few minutes after cooking. Experiment with different seasonings and toppings. Serve with fries, onion rings, or salad.
