Method
 

  1. Gently rinse the strawberries and pat them completely dry with paper towels. This is crucial for the chocolate to adhere properly.

  2. In a heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water (double boiler method) or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, melt the chocolate chips. Stir frequently until smooth. If using, whisk in the coconut oil or shortening for a smoother, shinier finish.

  3. Hold a strawberry by its leaves and dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat about two-thirds of the way up.

  4. If desired, immediately sprinkle the dipped strawberry with your chosen toppings.

  5. Place the dipped strawberries on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
