  • 1 small onion finely chopped (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt or to taste
For the Sliders:
  • 1 package Hawaiian sweet rolls (12 count) such as King's Hawaiian
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese quartered (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds optional

Equipment

  • Skillet
  • Baking Dish

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  4. Stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  5. Slice the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the top buns connected.
  6. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a baking dish.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture evenly over the rolls.
  8. Top with the quartered cheddar cheese slices.
  9. Place the top half of the rolls back on.
  10. Brush the melted butter evenly over the top of the rolls.
  11. Sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).
  12. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the rolls are golden brown.
  13. Slice into individual sliders and serve immediately.

Notes

For extra flavorful cheeseburger sliders, consider using a slightly higher fat content ground beef. Don't be afraid to experiment with different cheeses – pepper jack, provolone, or even a smoky gouda would be delicious. To prevent the bottom of the rolls from getting soggy, you can lightly toast them before adding the beef mixture. Also, be careful not to overbake the sliders, as the rolls can become dry. If you want a little extra zest, try adding a dash of your favorite hot sauce to the beef mixture or top the sliders with some thinly sliced pickles after baking. Wrapping the sliders in foil after baking and letting them rest for a few minutes will help the cheese melt even more and keep everything warm.
