- Place the 3 cups of fresh blackberries in a large bowl. Use a potato masher to mash them thoroughly until they are completely broken down.3 cups fresh blackberries
- Pour the mashed blackberries through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl or large measuring cup. Use a spoon to press firmly on the pulp to extract all the deep purple juice. Discard the leftover seeds and pulp.
- Pour the fresh blackberry juice into a large punch bowl (4- to 6-quart capacity).

Notes
For an alcoholic version, stir in 1 to 2 cups of bourbon with the sweet tea and water. The frozen blackberries act as natural ice cubes to keep the punch cold without diluting it. For best results, add the ginger beer just before serving to preserve its carbonation.
