  • Mint sprigs for garnish

Equipment

    3 cups fresh blackberries
  2. Pour the mashed blackberries through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl or large measuring cup. Use a spoon to press firmly on the pulp to extract all the deep purple juice. Discard the leftover seeds and pulp.
  3. Pour the fresh blackberry juice into a large punch bowl (4- to 6-quart capacity).
  4. Stir in the chilled sweet tea, cold water, and fresh lime juice until everything is well combined.
4 cups chilled sweet tea, 2 cups cold water, 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  5. Gently stir in the chilled ginger beer and the entire bag of frozen blackberries. Be careful not to stir too vigorously to maintain the ginger beer's fizz.
4 cans nonalcoholic ginger beer, 1 bag frozen blackberries
  6. To serve, place ice in individual cups and ladle the punch over top. Garnish each serving with a slice of lime and a fresh sprig of mint.

Notes

For an alcoholic version, stir in 1 to 2 cups of bourbon with the sweet tea and water. The frozen blackberries act as natural ice cubes to keep the punch cold without diluting it. For best results, add the ginger beer just before serving to preserve its carbonation.
